Florencia en el Amazonas
Music by Daniel Catan
Libretto by Marcela Fuentes-Berain
Set in the early 1900′s aboard an Amazon steamboat, Catan has created a late romantic style opera with musical influences of Puccini and Debussey, and themes drawn from Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez (whose works include “Love in the Time of Cholera”) .
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
Music by Tobias Picker
Libretto by Donald Sturrock
Creative adaptation of the beloved story by Roald Dahl. Mr. Fox works hard to keep his family fed, finally outwitting the farmers who destroyed the foxes den.
Dido abd Aeneas by Henry Pucell
Classic baroque opera recounts the love of Dido, Queen of Carthage, for the Trojan hero Aeneas, and her despair when he abandons her.
Tribute to our Founder
Keri Rusthoi, after twelve years as Founder and Artistic Director of the Emerald City Opera, is moving on to earn her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and to focus on new musical opportunities opening to her.
Emerald City Opera promotes professional opera and the vocal arts in Northwest Colorado, through educational and musical opportunities in collaboration with world-class artists.
Meet Andres Cladera – New Artistsic Director for ECO
Andres Cladera, a native of Uruguay, is the new Artistic Director of Emerald City Opera in Steamboat Springs. His responsibilities for Emerald City Opera are to plan and cast opera productions, provide direction for the Education and Outreach programs including the summer Opera Artist Institute for emerging professional singers, and programs for music education in elementary schools in Northwest Colorado. He will also be involved in production management, fund raising, development, and public relations.
Mr. Cladera, who began singing in opera productions at the age of seven, is also the Resident Conductor at San Antonio Opera and is the founder and Artistic Director of The Microscopic Opera Company in Pittsburg, PA.
Mr. Cladera holds a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Piano and Vocal Performance from the College of Charleston. In 2007 he received the Outstanding Young Conductor award of the Association of Choral Directors of America. He has prior conducting experience with Opera Colorado, Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, Edgewood Symphony, Pittsburgh Early Music Consort and Chatham Baroque, and formerly was the Swallow Hill Music School Director.
